Motion365 - Day 016: Boys

This is a duplicate blog entry from Motion365, my personal dance adventure from 2010-2011.  Notable entries have been copied to this blog so students and fellow dancers may enjoy the ponderings and combos created from the experience.

Song: Boys (3:26) by Britney Spears from Britney

Sometimes a song and a movement synch and it’s beyond your control.  As I attempted to plan for this week’s new bellydance session, I found myself stuff for fun new choreography.  My body is craving sensual movement with a bit of a funk.  Perhaps the best way to describe it is bellydance meets pole dance meets hip hop.  Obviously my students are hoping to bellydance so I bribe my body with a little bit of a compromise.  We’ll sass up a new class routine and set it to one of my favorite artists (pre marriages and psychotic breakdowns - for her, not me).

I began by choreographing some simply movements and then searching through my iPod for something that went with the feel of the motion.  After a bit of listening, Boys just seemed to naturally synch.

1-4:  Hold.
5-8:  Walk back L-R-L.  Lift R hip.
1-4:  Walk forward R-L-R.  Lift L hip.
5-8:  Walk back L-R-L.  Lift R hip.

1-4:  Up/Down shoulder shimmy R-2-3.  Lift L hip.
5-8:  Up/Down shoulder shimmy L-2-3.  Lift R hip.
1-4:  Up/Down shoulder shimmy R-2-3.  Lift L hip.
5-8:  Up/Down shoulder shimmy L-2-3.  Lift R hip.

1-4:  Lift arms up.
5-8:  Arm whirl (x2) - For flare, add a ¼ turn with each whirl.
1-4:  Float arms down.
5-8:  Oomi (x2) - For flare, add a ¼ turn with each oomi.

1-4:  R hip bump-bump.  L hip bump-bump.
5-8:  R hip bump-bump.  L hip bump-bump.

1-8:  Amaya.

1-8:  Walk back with camel (or Arabic) and arm plunge.

1-4:  Lift arms up.
5-8:  Arm whirl (x2) - For flare, add a ¼ turn with each whirl.
1-4:  Float arms down.
5-8:  Oomi (x2) - For flare, add a ¼ turn with each oomi.

To be continued for class…

And I should note, when my body was tired of playing with choreography, it just sashayed itself over to my shiny new dance partner and went to work.  ;o)
